Australia 316 all out in 3rd Test

Australia were bowled out for 316 in their first innings in the third Test against Sri Lanka played at SSC. Shaminda Eranga grabbed four wickets in his debut Test match while Michael Hussey top scored for the Australians with 118 runs from 178 deliveries.

struck a superb 118 before eventually being the last of the tourists removed just prior to lunch on day two at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground.

Australia’s lower order struggled, losing the last four wickets for just 23.

Paceman Chanaka Welegedara (3-75) cleaned up the tail to put Sri Lanka in a strong position as they aim to level the series.

The tourists resumed at 5-235 and Hussey and Brad Haddin added another 30 runs before the latter was removed.

A seaming delivery from Shaminda Eranga (4-65) saw the wicket-keeper get a faint edge through to Prasanna Jayawardene.

The New South Welshman referred the decision, but the replay showed a clear edge.

Hussey continued his impressive form and put on 28 with Johnson for the seventh wicket.

But Johnson (eight) gave up his innings, lobbing an easy catch to Rangana Herath at point off Welegedara.

Paceman Peter Siddle went next ball, leaving his bat hanging out tentatively to edge a catch to Tharanga Paranavitana at first slip.

With Welegedara on a hat-trick, Hussey waited nervously down the other end on 99.

But Trent Copeland survived before Hussey nudged a single behind square to bring up his 15th Test century.

Hussey also notched 5000 Test runs as he backed up his 142 in the second Test.

Copeland (one) only lasted until the next over before he edged a catch to Mahela Jayawardene at second slip off Welegedara.

Sri Lanka finally drew a rash shot out of Hussey, but Herath dropped a tough chance at third man.

As Nathan Lyon survived down the other end, Hussey continued to score before Eranga had him edging one onto his stumps.
