French national’s family to be compensated – Railway Dept.

The Railway Department has decided to pay Rs. 150,000 to the relatives of the French National who was killed in the Alawwa train collision on September 17. The General Manager of the Railway Department B.B.P. Ariyarathne said that the compensation would be delivered through the French Embassy in Colombo.

 

He also added that Rs. 20,000 each were provided to the families of the train operator and assistant who succumbed to their injuries after the accident.  A decision is yet to be taken to pay compensation to the families of the two train officials who were killed, Ariyarathne said.


A total of five persons were killed and over 30 injured as a result of the train collision which took place in Alawwa  on September 17
