MARKSS HEALTHCARE conducts workshop to educate OSUSALA pharmacists on ethical dispensing if steroids

MARKSS  HEALTHCARE, a fast growing pharmaceuticals company in Sri Lanka successfully conducted another session of a series of workshops to educate pharmacists of Osusala on the responsibilities in dispensing steroids. The workshop was carried out with the objective of educating the pharmacists on newer developments of pharmaceutical industry in Sri Lanka.

Osusala is a highly reputed institution highly patronized by consumers in Colombo and all over the country. Therefore pharmacists are challenged with dealing with a substantial amount and variety of medicine, hence the need for a sound knowledge on the responsibilities associated with dispensing of steroids.

The workshop was facilitates by Dr. Mahakalanda, the Medical Director at MARKSS HEALTHCARE, and was attended by nearly 40 pharmacists at Osusala.

Dr. Mahakalanda, commenting on the importance of the workshop said, “Against the backdrop of numerous pharmaceuticals producing the same molecule under various different brand names, pharmacists today bear a significant role beyond that of an ordinary dispenser.’

He said it is essential that pharmacists possess the required knowledge about the use of steroids.

Dr. Mahakalanda noted that pharmacists need to be vigilant if a patient possibly receiving medical treatment from two different doctors produces multiple prescriptions, it may lead to the consumption of an overdose of medicines or consumption of medicines with harmful interactions. He emphasized that it is the responsibility of the pharmacist to educate patients of such adverse possibilities.
