The committee appointed to probe the allegations against the Post Master General (PMG) has handed in its report to Postal Services Minister Jeevan Kumaratunga last Thursday. This report is to be handed over to the Cabinet for its decision soon, inside sources told Adaderana.
There are 26 charges against the PMG that the three member committee had to probe into. Of the 26 charges, the committee has found the PMG guilty of 16 charges, not guilty of five and partially guilty of the other five, these sources revealed to Adaderana on Thursday evening.
Minister Kumaratunga is expected to hand over the committee report on the PMG to the Cabinet next week and a decision would be taken after it is studied, it is reliably learnt.
Meanwhile, the trade unions which had called for probes on the PMG have presented their evidence on six charges against him to the Bribery Commission on Thursday.
However, the trade unions have appealed to the Bribery Commission that since the PMG is still in his post, it would be a threat to the unions presenting further evidence. Hence they have appealed to the Bribery Commission to urge the relevant authorities to either suspend or take suitable action so as to prevent the PMG from exerting any pressure on trade union activists, the sources said.
