Colombo Uni. “restricted zone” for Arts and Science students

Student of the Arts Faculty and the Science Faculty of the Colombo University have temporarily been barred from entering the university premises today (15), as a result of a clash between students of the two faculties last night.

Senior Students’ Counselor Dr. Premakumara de Silva said the University of Colombo premises has been temporarily made a “restricted zone” for students of both faculties from 12noon today.

Three students had been hospitalized as a result of a student clash last night after heated argument between two student factions from the Arts Faculty and the Science Faculty had escalated to physical contact.

The three students have been discharged after being treated at the Colombo General Hospital, sources said.

It has been reported that a tense atmosphere had prevailed in the university in the early hours today as well.

Dr. De Silva however stated that the situation has now been brought under control and that activities of all faculties will be conduct in the usual manner from tomorrow.
