Democratic People’s Front (DPF) Leader, Mano Ganeshan has decided to resign from his post as a Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) member following a committee decision made by his party.

Speaking to Ada Derana, Ganeshan said that the decision was taken to focus on his party leadership and to strengthen as well as develop the DPF for future elections.

He added that a suitable candidate from his party will be put forward to fill the vacant seat at the CMC.

Last week, media reports circulated that Ganeshan was to resign from his post at the CMC and take up a seat in parliament through the National list as part of an MoU between the DPF and the UNP which ensured cooperation between the two parties in order to strengthen the UNP’s hold in the CMC.
