Escaped convict back behind bars

A convict who had escaped from the Polonnaruwa Prison several months back has been arrested by a team of officers of the unsolved crimes investigation unit, Matale Division.

A resident of Avissawella, the convict had escaped the Polonnaruwa Prison in February and was wanted in connection to 11 crimes carried out in Dambulla, Gokarella, Matale, Ratnapura and several other areas.

Police also recovered stolen property from the suspect, who is to be produced at the Matale Magistrate’s Court today (20).
