Expected concessions not provided in budget - LPBOA

The Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association says that no relief has been provided to the private bus industry through the 2012 budget proposals.

President of the association Gamunu Wijeratne stated that an allocation of Rs.4 billion has been made for the SLTB through the budget and that it would result in the downfall of the private bus industry.

He added that even though a 50% reduction on imported tire prices has been proposed in the budget, a majority of Sri Lanka’s bus owners use locally manufactured tires for their buses.

Wijeratne while pointing out that the private bus industry is presently incurring losses of Rs.15million per day due to the fuel hike, highlighted that the depreciation of the rupee would lead to increase in bus prices

The Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association accused that they did not receive the expected concessions through this budget.
