Adam’s Peak first destination of holy mountains expedition

Sri Lanka’s renowned holy mountain, Adam’s Peak, which is known as Sri Pada, will be the first mountain in the itinerary of 18 mountains to be climbed by a group of Malaysians within the next eight months.
For the group of 11, it will be a religious experience as well as a fact finding mission as they scale the mountains which are significant to Muslims and those of Abrahamic and Dharmic faiths.
It will be an experience they will share with others during and on their return from the journeys to the mountains most of which are believed to have been visited by prophets.
The expedition is led by MuhamadMuqharabbinMokhtarrudin, president of the ‘KelabEksplorasi 7 Benua Malaysia’.
The mountains to be scaled include those in Turkey, Syria, Jordan, Israel, and Russia.
Adam’s Peak is first on the list is revered as a holy mountain by Buddhists, Hindu, Muslims and Christians alike.
A footprint atop the 7,360 feet high mountain, which is reached after a gruelling climb, is said, by followers of the different religions, to belong to either Lord Buddha, Siva or Adam (in the Islamic and Christian tradition) respectively.
Situated in almost the centre of the island, the mountain is Situated in thick damp wilderness and is the source of all the major rivers flowing through the island.
Speaking to journalists at the Kuala Lumpur Airport just prior to leaving for Sri Lanka Muqharabin said that he hoped to make the expedition an annual event.
He said that the group hoped to make their trip into a documentary which would go towards making Malaysians participate in healthy and spiritual activity.
A fellow traveller and history buff, Noorjannah Ahmad said that the team hoped to come back with a big revelation. She said that the mission is based on the theme that every great prophet had his own mountain and their mission is to discover the reason behind it.
The group will not be the only one making the climb up Sri Lanka’s holy mountain.
The Sri Pada season which begins in December continues till April and thousands of pilgrims of the different faiths as well tourists from around the globe make the arduous climb. (Times of Oman)
