The people of the entire country know about me and my service to the country, Mervyn Silva said today. Referring to the Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha members who have charged him with corruption, the Minister said that because of the full moon, hidden ailments have resurfaced and “they have gone mad”.

“Kindly ask them to get treatment for that,” he told media today (January 09).

The Minister of Public Relations and Public Affairs stated that the Pradeshiya Sabha members had thought the accusations would enrage him and added that he is no longer angered as “that time has passed”.

On January 5th Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Prasanna Ranaweera, Deputy Chairman Chaminda Duminda and several other PS members challenged the Minister for a debate claiming that they could prove that he and his loyalists were involved in extortion, corruption and financial mismanagement in the Kelaniya and Kiribathgoda towns.

Responding to this the outspoken Minister said: “If any corruption or extortion has taken place ask them to lodge a complaint with the CID, police headquarters or bribery commission.”

“Why should I take part in a debate with them?”

Referring to imprisoned DNA leader Sarath Fonseka’s statement yesterday in which he had commended the Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha, the Minister said he was prepared to have a debate with the former Army Chief.
