Import duty on Dhal, Sugar and Garlic increased

Import duty on consumer goods such as Dhal, Sugar and Garlic have been increased since January 13, government sources said today. It is said that import duty on Dhal has been increased by Rs. 8 per kilogram, Sugar by Rs. 5 per kilogram and Garlic by Rs. 15 per kilogram.

The increase was made due to the decrease in prices of these items in the international market, sources in the Ministry of Cooperatives and Internal Trade stated while pointing out that the tariff increase will have no impact on the prices of the the local market.
