EPF Amendment Bill passed in Parliament

The Employees Provident Fund (EPF) Amendment Bill was passed in Parliament today with a majority of 59 votes. 71 MPs voted in favor of the amendment bill while 12 voted against it. 

The controversial bill, which provides for the setting up of a pension or insurance fund for members, was presented in Parliament earlier today by the Leader of the House Nimal Siripala De Silva. 

Minister of Labour and Labour Relations Gamini Lokuge had said that two clauses in the EPF Bill were removed by the government.
