The Ministry of Power and Energy says that the exact cause behind the suspension of power generation at the Norochcholai coal power plant is yet to be determined.
Electricity generation from the power plant was temporarily suspended on January 06 due to a technical fault in a coal crushing machine.
This resulted in the loss 300 MW of power to the national power grid, a spokesman to the Ministry said today.
There had been breakdowns in the power generation at the Norochcholai power plant on several previous occasions mainly due to the eruption of minor internal fires.
The administration and control of the power plant is carried out by a Chinese firm, which has been accused by workers at the plant of engaging in ‘conspiratorial acts’ causing the incidents.
Workers claim that these acts are carried out by the company with the sole intention of gaining the plant’s repair contracts.
The Ministry of Power and Energy responding to these accusations said that it has been unable to take action against the company as it has to comply with agreements signed with the company in question.
