Chief Minister of the Eastern Province Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan says he agrees with the Tamil National Alliance regarding its stance on formulating a political solution for the Tamil issue. He also expressed his agreement in the request for granting police and land powers.
The Tamil Makkal Viduthalai Pulikal (TMVP) leader, also known as Pillayan, has submitted a letter to R. Sambandan, the parliamentary group leader of the TNA, conveying these opinions.
Responding to the letter R. Sambandan has expressed his willingness to discuss the said matters with the Tamil Makkal Viduthalai Pulikal.
Meanwhile a group of past pupils of the Eastern University in a statement released claim that it is ‘unfortunate’ if an agreement is reached between the Tamil National Alliance and Pillayan.
They accuse Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan, who is currently overseas, of obstructing the Tamil people representation in the Eastern Province and infringing their rights, by working with the government.
Therefore past pupil group emphasize that such an agreement would be unnecessary.
