VIDEO: World Cup trophy safe, not damaged - SLC

The 1996 ICC Cricket World Cup Trophy together with 30 other Champions trophies Won by our National team over the years is safe in their respective shelves at SLC headquarters, Sri Lanka Cricket said in a release.

SLC rubbished rumours that the 1996 World Cup Trophy had been damaged while transporting same to the Dayata Kirulla exhibition, thereby misleading the public.

Sri Lanka Cricket hereby informs the Public and the Media, that the 1996 World Cup Trophy together with 30 other Champions trophies Won by our National team over the years is safe in their respective shelves at SLC headquarters.


We exhibited the 1996 World Cup Trophy together with 30 other Trophies achieved by our National team over the years, at the Dayata Kirulla exhibition with the sole objective of giving the public an opportunity to view these trophies which are housed at SLC headquarters.


The Media will appreciate that the public who have supported Sri Lanka Cricket have limited access or opportunities of viewing these Trophies that are on display at SLC headquarters.


We note with great regret, that certain individuals with hidden agenda’s are spreading rumors, that the 1996 World Cup Trophy has been damaged while transporting same to the Dayata Kirulla exhibition, thereby misleading the public.


The Media is most welcome to view all the trophies which are safe and intact and any time convenient to any representative of your organization.
