At least fifteen (15) police officers inclusive of three Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs) were injured when UNP protestors acted in a ‘provocative manner’ in Colombo Fort today, the Government Information Department quoting Police Spokesman SP Ajith Rohana said.

It was earlier reported that UNP MP Dr. Jayalath Jayawardena was also injured in the protest after tear gas canister had struck his head. He was subsequently hospitalized.

The road in front of the Fort Railway Station was also closed as a result of the demonstration organized by the United National Party (UNP) protesting the fuel prices hike.
