Ranil, Tissa given time to file objections

The Colombo District Court today granted Ranil Wickramasinghe and Tissa Attanayake time to file objections to the petition challenging the leadership election of the United National Party.

The Opposition Leader and UNP General Secretary were given till May 09 to file objections pertaining to the petition, filed by UNP Southern Provincial Councilor and Attorney Maithri Gunaratne.

The petition, seeking court to declare the UNP leadership election as violating the party constitution, claims that every ballot paper of the election contained a number, despite the party constitution stating that the leader should be selected in a secret ballot.
