The Government is prepared even to make a constitutional amendment to put into effect the National Human Rights Action Plan (NHRAP) which it will present at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva next week, Chief Government Whip Dinesh Gunawardena stated in parliament today.

He said this in reply to the special statement made by Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe about the government move to present the proposed NHRAC at the United Nations Human Rights Council session without discussing it in the parliament. Wickremasinghe stated that this was a violation of the Constitution.
