The Sri Lanka government could face further pressure at the Human Rights Council in Geneva with the suspicions regarding ‘white van’ abductions being confirmed, the United National Party (UNP) says.

The government has not considered the magnitude of the consequences of such abductions occurring during ongoing discussion on the country’s human rights record, Tissa Attanayake said referring to the foiled abduction attempt on the Kolonnawa Urban Council Chairman on Saturday.

Speaking at a press conference today (13) the UNP General Secretary accused the government of “once again” displaying clearly to the entire world that a “white van culture” is taking place.

He claimed that the government has taken responsibility for these actions and stated that the Army Commander had conceded that army personnel dressed in white and traveling in a white van where present at Kolonnawa.
