The report prepared by the committee appointed to look into the attack on party headquarters Sirikotha is not an impartial report, says UNP MP Karu Jayasuriya.
Upon analyzing the recommendations made and the information included in the report, it is evident that the report does not balance, he said in a release today.
The former UNP Deputy Leader accused that certain presumptions and several recommendations prepared in advance have been confirmed and presented in the form of a report.
He alleged that the committee has made absolutely no reference to the individuals who were in the Sirikotha premises on the day of the UNP leadership election, armed with steel rods.
Although television footage clearly showed individuals chasing and attacking unarmed men and women during the chaos outside Sirikotha, the committee has chosen to remain silent on this, he further stated.
Responding to the accusations of Mr Jayasuriya, the head of the four-member committee appointed to investigate the Sirikotha attack, President’s Council Srinath Perera stated that the recommendations were made according to verbal and written evidence, video footage and photographs.
The recommendations were not presented in a manner malicious anyone or under any pressure from any person, he told Ada Deraana, adding that what felt correct was expressed.
