The government is following a philosophy of over feeding the rich and Rs. 2500 for the poor, the United National Party (UNP) accused today.

At a time when the third Sinhala and Tamil New Year after the end of the war is being celebrated, the government is burdening the public by increasing taxes, UNP Spokesman Gayantha Karunathilaka charged.

Through the increase in taxes on family vehicles such as motorbikes and three-wheelers, the public which made immense sacrifices during the war, is to paying for wastage in the government’s expenditures, he told media at press briefing.

Warning that prices of milk powder and gas will increase soon after the New Year, Karunathilaka said the UNP condemns these actions by the government.
