Over 15 accidents had occurred on the Southern Expressway during the festive season, most caused by speeding. Project director of the expressway T.K. Ranasinghe stated that a majority of the accidents had taken place during periods of rain.

Over 150 accidents have been reported on the expressway since its opening to the public.

Motorists should pay extra attention to the vehicle’s speed while driving on the expressway during adverse weather conditions, Ranasinghe told Ada Derana.
