A 19-year-old girl was struck and killed by a Colombo Fort-bound train last evening while attempting to rescue a calf which had wandered off and strolled on to the rail track in Puliyankulama, Anuradhapura.
The teenage girl, a resident of the area, had been herding cattle back home along with her sister when she had noticed the calf on the tracks and the oncoming train.
She had tugged on the rope tied on to the calf in an attempt to rescue it, however at that moment the train had hit the calf and subsequently the girl, killing them both instantly. (AdaDerana)
