Strong winds expected to continue around the island

Strong winds are expected in many parts of the island while the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) also reported that the prevailing conditions have claimed one life in Avissawella.

 

A number of homes around the country have been damaged due to the strong winds, Assistant Director of the DMC, Pradeep Kodippili stated.

 

Eight houses in Nuwara Eliya District were partially damaged while one house was completely destroyed due to the weather conditions. Meanwhile, 16 houses in the Gamapaha District were partially damaged while those figures in Bambalapitiya  and Polpithigama in the Kurunegala District are 3 and 15 respectively.

 

The Meteorological Department reported that many parts of the island could expect showers as well with accompanying strong winds.
