Provincial Councilor and PS member remanded; 5 local politicos arrested in 24 hrs

UNP Southern Provincial Councilor Krishantha Pushpakumara and Bope-Poddala Pradeshiya Sabha member Amila Nuwan, who were arrested on charges of obstructing police, have been remanded till August 08 by the Galle Magistrate’s Court.

Pushpakumara, also known as Raththaran, was arrested along with the UNP Pradeshiya Sabha member this afternoon for obstructing the duties of police officers in the Akmeemana area.

Their arrests bring the number of local politicians arrested by police within the past 24-hours to five.

The Health Minister of the Central Province, Sunil Amaratunga, was arrested yesterday (04) for allegedly assaulting a doctor.

A member of the Badulla Pradeshiya Sabha was arrested for assaulting and injuring an official of the National Water Supply and Drainage Board while a Rideegama Pradeshiya Sabha member was arrested last night for pelting stones at a vehicle of MP Nimal Wijesinghe’s security detail.
