Three army soldiers have been arrested on suspicion of raping a woman on a train last night, police spokesman SP Ajith Rohana said.

Railway security officers onboard the Badulla-bound train had apprehended the three soldiers and the woman and handed them over to Haputale Police for further inquiries.

Initial investigations had later revealed that the alleged rape victim had willingly participated, he said.

The three soldiers in question were reportedly on their way to the Diyatalawa military base for training.
