Police arrest 11 persons for breaking election laws

Police have arrested 11 persons in connection with breaking election laws pertaining to the upcoming local government elections after receiving several complaints, DIG Elections, Gamini Nawaratna stated.

 

He said that so far the police have received 14 complaints regarding election law violations while most of the complaints that are filed are related to threats and unlawful propaganda.

 

Meanwhile, the Elections Chief met with the political parties and independent groups to discuss matters concerning the upcoming local government polls yesterday (August 10) at the Elections Secretariat.

 

The PAFFREL organization stated that lengthy discussion ensued regarding the issues of the upcoming elections.
