Kahawatta gets additional police team

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) has taken steps to station an additional team of police officers in the Kahawatta area, which had been in the spotlight recently following a series of crimes.

IGP N.K. Illangakoon, who visited Kahawatta yesterday, had held discussions with high ranking officers in the region regarding security provided to the area.

Here he had instructed that another team comprising 15 police officers be station in Kahawatta, police spokesman’s office said.

Accordingly the officers will be placed on duty attached to the Kahawatta Police station with effect from today (01), a senior officer in charge of the area said.

Kahawatta had become synonymous with crime following the occurrence of a series of murders and crimes, some even connected to drugs and local politicians.
