UNP nominate Opposition Leaders for two Provincial Councils

The UNP has nominated Dr. Thusitha Wijemanna and Kings Nelson as Opposition Leaders for the Sabaragamuwa and North Central Provincial Councils, the UNP media reported.

UPFA General Secretary, Minister Susil Premajayantha meanwhile informed the Elections Commissioner of the persons to be appointed to the six bonus seats that the UPFA won at the recently concluded Provincial Council elections in the North Central, Sabaragamuwa and Eastern Provinces.

The UPFA has divided the six bonus seats equally amongst the three Provinces therefore according to the most preferential votes that were received by candidates of particular Districts, one bonus seat will be awarded to two Districts each in the North Central and Sabaragamuwa Provinces.

The UPFA has also nominated a Tamil candidate for the bonus seat given to the Trincomalee District of the Eastern Province while the candidate with the next highest preferential votes has been nominated from the Ampara District.
