Minister of Health and General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) Maithripala Sirisena has stated that steps will be taken to notify the public about the impeachment motion brought against the Chief Justice.

The minister stated that the government is taking measures to protect the people’s sovereignty and that the impeachment motion is a result of that move.

The minister further stated that the United National Party (UNP) is against this move, but this motion was made possible by what they did back then to the present day constitution and that the UNP had forgotten their past.

The people had a sense of curiosity about the motion previously, but now the people know what the 14 accusations contain, the minister said. He also explained that an impeachment motion is not something new, that such things were presents during J. R. Jayawardane’s and R. Premadasa’s period of rule.

The minister also informed that the discharge bill for 2013 will be presented at parliament tomorrow, and that the budget will be debated until December 08. The minister further stated that the budget has been prepared with a vision of economic development in the country.
