VIDEO: I have neared retirement – Maithripala

Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena says his political career has neared its end and that the time has come for him to retire from active politics.

The General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) further said that he has prepared a 2nd and 3rd group for the future.

The government always accomplishes its duty for the future generation, the Minister said at an event to distribute school equipment in Polonnaruwa.

Sirisena joined the Sri Lanka Freedom Party in 1979 as the secretary of its district organization and became the president of the All Island Sri Lanka Freedom Party Youth Organization.

He joined mainstream politics in 1989 and has held several ministries since 1994 and is the current General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party.
