A piece of glass has been found inside an antibiotic vaccination vial at the Kalubowila Hospital.

Chairman of the Health Services Trade Union Alliance (HSTUA) Saman Rathnapriya stated that after the piece of glass was found, the entire set of vials, roughly 600, that were brought with it were disposed of.

The Chairman stated that the piece of glass was found in a vial containing the Cloxacillin vaccine. He explained that this is a serious issue because the vial’s sterilization is important to patients, and that these antibiotics must be purchased from proper corporations and an investigation must be carried out regarding the issue.

According to an inquiry by Ada Derana, the piece of glass was found last Friday, after which the entire batch of vials was disposed of.
