Man who murdered 1-yr-old daughter commits suicide

A man who was accused of assaulting and murdering his one-year-old daughter has committed suicide by hanging himself at a residence in Polgasowita.

The suspect, serving with the Sri Lanka Navy, was a resident of Moradana, Piliyandala and had fled the area after brutally assaulting his daughter during an argument with his wife.

He had then traveled to a house belonging to him in Kahatuduwa Polgasowita and commitrted suicide last night. Residents in the area had contacted police after discovering the body this morning.

 The man in question had reportedly quarreled with his wife on Thursday (03) night and unable to contain his anger had assaulted his daughter.

The girl had fallen unconscious after the attack, however was pronounced dead upon admittance to hospital.
