Govt targeting electricity tariff next - Tissa

Condemning the government’s decision to increase price of gas, the United National Party today charged that leaders claiming to be “patriots” are wasting tax money on Lamborghinis races while paying absolutely no attention to the hardships faced by the masses.

The price of a 12.5 kg cylinder of domestic LP gas was increased by Rs. 150 with effect from today (05) while the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) sated that the hike was in accordance to the rise of gas prices in the global market last November.

Before this Rs.150 hike the government raised the gas price by Rs. 350 in May last year, which means the price of a domestic gas cylinder has been increased by Rs. 500 within a period of just 7 months, UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake stated.

He warned that the government will not stop at that, claiming they are aiming to increase the electricity tariff in the near future.
