Six arrested over killing of Filipino sailor

Six Philippine nationals suspected of murdering a fellow countryman in a ship anchored at the Colombo Port surrendered to police today through the Philippine Embassy, police said.

Colombo Harbour Police is recording statement from the suspects with the assistance of a translator from the Philippine Embassy.

A 37-year-old Philippine sailor was hacked to death inside a Taiwanese ship early Monday morning following a dispute among the sailors. The victim was found dead with severe cut injuries.

The six sailors suspected of the killing fled from the ship but surrendered to police today.
