The United National Party today claimed that out of 9 casinos in Colombo only 5 have been registered and the rest are not taxed.

The government, which imposes one tax after another on the public, is allowing these large scale casinos to operate without paying taxes, UNP MP Dr. Harsha de Silva said.

He stated that the normal practice under the Gaming and Betting Act would be to impose a tax of 5% on these establishments.

The parliamentarian said that allowing them to operate while avoiding taxes and the government failing to notice the casinos located in the roadside in Colombo, is an issue greater than not registering 4 casinos.

UNP MP and Consultant Economist further said he invites the Bodu Bala Sena Organization to take measures regarding such casinos and requested them to come forward to remove such establishments.
