Nadeeka Lakmali of Sri Lanka has gained first place in the Javelin Throw event in Stage 3 of the Asian Athletics Grand Prix and thus maintaining position in all three stages.

Lakmali cleared 56.83 meters to win the only gold medal for Sri Lanka at Thamasat University Ground at the first leg of the Asian Grand Prix Athletic Championships on May 4.

She then cleared a distance of 55.99 meters in the second stage to win another gold on may 8.

Lakmali won a bronze medal at the 2007 Asian Athletics Championships in Amman, Jordan and also represented Sri Lanka at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, where she competed for the women’s javelin throw.

Meanwhile Manjula Kumara has taken 1st place in the High jump event of the Asian Grand Prix - Stage 3 with a personal best of 2.24m.

W.K.L Nimali finished 1st place in the Women’s 800 meters event by clocking in a time of 2 minutes and 5.92 seconds, giving Sri Lanka its third Gold Medal in the 3rd Stage of the championship today.

Nimali had also claimed gold in the second stage of the Asian Grand Prix.

Asian Athletics Grand Prix this year has been divided into 3 stages with the first two stages taking place in Thailand and the final stage in Sri Lanka.
