Fairly strong winds can be expected over Sri Lanka due to the indirect effects of the tropical cyclone, the Meteorological Department stated.

Earlier today the Met Department said that several parts of the island will experience continued rains today (May 13) due to the cyclonic storm ‘Mahasen’.

It further stated that fishermen should avoid going out to sea off the Eastern and Northern coast.

The Met Department explained that the storm was currently in the southwest of the Bay of Bengal and about 650km northeast of Trincomalee traveling away from the island.
