An investigation will be held concerning the interruption in refining operations of crude oil at the Sapigaskanda refinery, the Petroleum Industries Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa stated.

When Ada Derana contacted the Minister with regards to the situation at the refinery, he said that it was of great concern that no crude oil had been imported even with the stock of crude oil nearing depletion.

He said that he had instructed officials to import the necessary crude oil while the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation states that despite operations being halted at the refinery, fuel can be provided with no shortage.

After imports of crude oil have been delayed the CPC had taken a decision to halt operations at the refinery.

Media Coordinator of the CPC, Ajith Dharmapriya stated that a decision was taken to perform necessary maintenance work to the refinery during this period.
