VIDEO: List of 42 fishermen killed in monsoon weather

The total number of fishermen pronounced dead, according to information received as of 2.30 p.m. today, has reached 42 while around 22 have been injured due to adverse weather condition in the past few days.

 

Forty-three fishermen are still missing along with 24 trawlers, a statement issued by the Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Deputy Minister’s Office said.

 

It states that 9 deaths, 5 injured and 1 person is missing from the Colombo District while 23 deaths, 11 injured and 12 disappearances have been reported from the Galle District.

 

Nine fishermen died in the Kalutara District while 6 each are injured and missing. One death has been reported from the Negombo District with one person missing and 13 boats damaged.
