VIDEO: Vaas Gunawardena admitted to hospital

DIG Vaas Gunawardena who was arrested over the murder of a businessman in Dompe has been admitted to the Colombo National Hospital due to an illness, hospital sources confirmed.
He was admitted to Ward 42 while the DIG was further remanded until June 25 by the Colombo Additional Magistrate A.M. Shabdeen, his lawyer Ajith Pathirana told Ada Derana.
DIG Gunawardena was arrested on June 10 and was being questioned under a 72-hour detention order, Police said.
Bambalapitiya-based businessman Mohamed Siyam was abducted and murdered in the Dompe area on May 22.
Following investigations conducted into the incident, the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on June 06 arrested Sub-Inspector Lakmini Bamunusinghe, attached to the office of the DIG Western Province (North), along with three Police Constables (PCs) serving in the DIGís special unit.
Upon interrogating the arrested police officers, the CID uncovered information regarding the DIGís alleged involvement in the businessmanís murder and recorded a statement from DIG Vaas Gunawardena on the same day.
