The local government sector has been disgraced while the President and the party have been shamed by the indecent behavior of the chairmen and members of local government bodies, SLFP General Secretary and Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena stated.

Speaking at an event in Polonnaruwa today (July 17) he said that local government politicians had been involved in murders, rapes, robberies and bribery which had in turn brought shame to the government.

The Minister explained that he was unable to participate in any meetings or media discussions because of this situation and that at times he did not have the answers to the questions that he was asked at these events.

He added that these local government politicians will not be allowed to carry on this indecent behavior as stringent action will be taken against them.
