Police have begun investigations to apprehend a group including a Biyagama Pradeshiya Sabha member over the assault of a construction site worker in Sapugaskanda.

The PS member and five others had visited a construction site on Samurdhi Mawatha in Sapugaskanda yesterday (July 21) where they had demanded the construction permits from the workers.

One of the bulldozer drivers had then had a heated exchange of words with the group after which he was brutally assaulted by the group with poles, police stated.

Two of the suspects were arrested by the police and presented to the Mahara courts today (22).

The police stated that they are taking steps to arrest the rest of the group including the PS member who was involved in the assault while the victim is currently receiving treatment at the Colombo national hospital.
