The five suspects in the murder of the chief incumbent of the Sunandopanandaramaya Temple in Egoda Uyana, including the Deputy Mayor of Moratuwa, have been further remanded until August 08 by Moratuwa Additional Magistrate M.M. Nihar.

Ven Matiyagahathenna Wimalawansa Thera was stabbed to death on February 03 over a land dispute while two suspects in the murder were found shot dead in Bandaragama the following morning.

Deputy Mayor of the Moratuwa Municipal Council, Sujith Pushpakumara was arrested along with four others in connection with the killing.

It is reported that there had been a long standing dispute between the monk and two men who were illegally living on the Temple land.

The monk who had already filed a case against the two men had again lodged a complaint at the police station regarding the dispute prior to his murder.
