Yatiyantota PS chairman released on bail

The Chairman of the Yatitantota Pradeshiya Sabha, U.D. Wasantha Kumara who was arrested and remanded on bribery charges has been released on bail by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court.

The PS chairman was released on a cash bail of Rs 15,000 and two certified bails of Rs 500,000 each as ordered by Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya.

 The suspect was also ordered to refrain from intimidating any of the witnesses in the case and also to refrain from leaving the country.

The case is to be taken up again on December 06.

Wasantha Kumara was arrested on July 12 by the bribery commission for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 15 000, after demanding Rs 30 000 to provide a license to maintain a poultry farm. 

He had been remanded on two occasions after being arrested.
