Doctor arrested in shooting

A doctor from Kirimetiyana West in Koswatta has been arrested in connection with the shooting and injuring of a neighboring woman last night.

The shooting had occurred at around 10.00pm yesterday (24) while the victim, Jayakody Arachchilage Thilakalatha, has been admitted to the Marawila Hospital.

The arrested suspect, a doctor at the Negombo General Hospital, and the victim are said to be neighbors while preliminary inquiries have revealed that the shooting was carried out following an argument between them.

The firearm used by the suspect, a 12-Bore gun, has also been taken into custody by police.

Koswatta Police is conducting further investigations.
