Voter turnout at the close of PC Polls

Over 60 per cent of registered voters in the Central and Northern Provinces turned up to cast their vote on election day, according to district-wise voting percentages released at the close of polls for the 3 Provincial Councils.
The voter turnout in the Kandy District has been reported as 60-62% while the percentages in the Matale and Nuwara Eliya districts are over 56% and 60% respectively.
Meanwhile the voter turnout at the close of polls in the North Western Province is 55% in the Kurunegala District and 55% in the Puttalam District.
In the Northern Province 65% of registered voters in the Vavuniya District exercised their franchise, 68% in Kilinochchi District, 70% in the Mannar District, 71% in the Mullaitivu District and 60% in the Jaffna District.
The provincial council election is the first in 25 years in the North, once the heartland of Tamil Tiger separatists, where long queues of patient voters formed in the morning at polling stations.
