The Meteorology Department forecasts fairly widespread thundershowers during the afternoon or night while fairly heavy falls (about 100mm) are also likely at some places.

There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers as inter monsoonal conditions are gradually establishing over the country with atmospheric disturbances in the vicinity, it said.

The Met Department requested the public to take adequate precautions to minimize the damages caused by lightning activities.

Showers or thundershowers will also occur in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Hambantota via Galle.

Showers or thundershowers are likely at several places in the other sea areas around the island during the evening or night.

Winds will be Southwesterly and speed will be 30-40 km/hr. The sea areas may be very rough and dangerous during thundershowers as the winds can be strengthen up to 80kmph at times, the department said.
