Two Indians nabbed with gold in rectum

Customs officers at the Katunayake Airport arrested two Indian nationals attempting to leave the country with gold pieces worth Rs 8.5 million concealed in their rectal cavities and shoes.

The two suspects arrived from Chennai last night and had purchased the gold from at the airport, where they had proceeded to conceal the precious metal for smuggling, customs spokesman Leslie Gamini said.

  He stated that one of the suspects had concealed 6 gold pieces in his rectum and 3 under the soles of his feet while the other was found attempting to smuggle 6 gold pieces in his rectum and 2 under his feet.

The seized gold weighs 1 kilogram and 700 grams in total and are said to be worth around 8.5 million rupees.

The customs spokesman said the two suspects were preparing to board a flight to Singapore at around 1.00am this morning when they were apprehended.
