British parliamentarians have unanimously proposed that Sri Lanka be made a colony of the UK, UNP MP Sajith Premadasa stated.

Referring to the parliament sessions held in the UK yesterday, the UNP MP stated that the British politicians, regardless of their political affiliations, had decided that an independent international inquiry needs to take place in Sri Lanka and that this decision was in a way an attempt to make Sri Lanka a colony.

He added that similarly, the Sri Lankan parliament should unite setting aside party politics and pass a proposal to stand against an international inquiry into the Sri Lanka armed forces while stating that he was ready to bring forward the proposal himself.

He said that the country does not enjoy freedom or democracy but that it was an internal issue that needed to be fixed by the people of the country and not through outside interference.

Premadasa claimed that a strong opposition was the key to democracy in this country and that nation would not be moving towards a dictatorship if a strong opposition was in place.

All the political parties in the country should have the back bone and soul to defend the national armed forces and the police in the face of international criticism, he said.

The MP also said that some narrow-minded politicians may accuse him of trying to win favour with the government but he added that he will never support such a corrupt and deceitful government.
